Privacy policy
Wildlife Watch (californiawildlifewatch.org) is a service of the California Farm Bureau Federation ("we"). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and what appears publicly.
What we collect
When you report activity: the animal, type of report, county, map location, date and time, your description, any photos or video you attach, and your name, email and phone number.
When you sign up for text alerts: your mobile number, ZIP code, alert distance, the animals you chose, and a record of your consent (the date, time and wording you agreed to).
Automatically: a scrambled (hashed) version of your internet connection address, used only to limit spam. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that forms are filled out by people, not bots.
What appears publicly
Only reports our staff approve appear on the public map. The map shows the animal, type of report, county, date, description, approved photos, and a location rounded to within about a mile. Your name, email and phone number are never published.
How we use your information
- To review reports and follow up with you if we have questions.
- To send the text alerts you asked for.
- To understand wildlife activity and its effect on farms, ranches and rural communities in California.
Text messaging
We use your mobile number only to send Wildlife Watch alerts. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party, except the service providers that deliver our messages. Reply STOP to any message to opt out. See our SMS terms.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your information. We use service providers to run this site and deliver texts (Cloudflare for hosting and storage, Twilio for text messages). They may only use your information to provide those services to us. We may share information if required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep reports as long as they are useful for tracking wildlife activity. When you opt out of texts, we stop messaging you right away and keep a record of the opt-out so we never text you again by mistake.
Your choices
To correct or delete a report you submitted, or to ask about your information, email [email protected].
Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page.
